Duration: Approx. 1.5–2 hours | Walking distance: ~approx 1 km It'’s a very walkable route, ideal for a leisurely 90-minute tour with time to stop, admire, and listen to commentary at each location. Every guide has their own route and sequence they like to follow. But whatever route they prefer, these are the sights that are covered. 1. Schlossplatz Begin your tour in the historic heart of Dresden. Framed by the Residenzschloss and the soaring towers of the Dresden Cathedral, Schlossplatz sets the stage with layers of royal, religious, and political history. 2. Theaterplatz (exterior visit) Just steps away, Theaterplatz offers a grand visual feast. Admire the world-famous Semper Opera House, the elegant Zwinger Pavilion, and sweeping views of the cathedral and Residenzschloss—all in one frame. 3. Zwinger Walk around one of Europe’s most iconic baroque complexes. With its lavish pavilions, fountains, and gardens, the Zwinger once hosted royal ceremonies and now stands as a symbol of Saxon grandeur. 4. Royal Palace Courtyards Step into the inner courtyards of the Residenzschloss. Your guide will highlight the Renaissance Sgraffito decorations and share insights into the museums and treasures housed within. 5. Fürstenzug (Procession of Princes) Follow the striking 102-meter-long porcelain mural, depicting a parade of Saxon rulers. Composed of over 23,000 Meissen tiles, it’s both an artistic and historical masterpiece. 6. Brühl’s Terrace Climb the stairs to the “Balcony of Europe.” Once a private garden for nobility, this elegant promenade offers panoramic views over the Elbe River and the historic skyline of Dresden. 7. Neumarkt & Frauenkirche (exterior visit of the church) Conclude your tour at Neumarkt, Dresden’s lively central square. Marvel at the Frauenkirche—a symbol of resilience and reconstruction—and explore the many cafés and restaurants offering traditional Saxon dishes and international cuisine after the tour. |
